If Beale Street Could Talk; Director: Barry Jenkins; Release date: December 2018; Based on work by James Baldwin

IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK:

Tenderness is the word that came to me as I watched this film. In the way the director Barry Jenkins handled James Baldwin's novel, the overall tone of the film, particularly the colors used, the soundtrack, etc...

Everything about the feel of the movie softens the fact that we are viewing anti-blackness on full display.

Except for one harrowing act by a male character upon a female character, the movie shows the unity needed within black families and communities when under siege.

Recommendation: HIGHEST
